The West End transfer of the Almeida Theatre’s stunning production of A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Olivier Award winner Rebecca Frecknall (Cabaret), features Oscar nominee Paul Mescal (Aftersun, Normal People), Patsy Ferran (Summer and Smoke), and Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts) in leading roles.
For seven weeks only, this “heartstopping” (The Telegraph) Tennessee Williams classic comes to the West End, after a successful run at the Almeida. Mescal delivers a “tremendous” performance as Stanley, while Ferran astounds as Blanche DuBois and Vasan shines as Stella in this “mesmerising” (The i) production.
Set on a New Orleans street during a sweltering summer, A Streetcar Named Desire explores the complex relationships between siblings and spouses. When Blanche arrives unannounced to see her estranged sister Stella, she brings a past that threatens their future. As Stanley comes closer to discovering the truth, Blanche’s world begins to crumble. Reality and illusion blur, leading to a violent confrontation that changes their lives forever.
