About Miss Saigon

Experience one of musical theatre’s most powerful love stories as Miss Saigon returns to London’s West End at the Prince Edward Theatre. Featuring an unforgettable score, spectacular staging and an emotionally charged story set against the final days of the Vietnam War, this acclaimed musical promises a memorable night at the theatre.

The new production, presented by Cameron Mackintosh in association with Michael Harrison, begins performances on 13 May 2027 and runs until 8 January 2028. Its return marks the musical’s long-awaited comeback to London, more than a decade after its previous West End engagement at the same theatre.

A Moving Story of Love and Survival

At the centre of Miss Saigon is Kim, a young Vietnamese woman whose life changes dramatically during the final days of the Vietnam War. Working in a bar in Saigon, she meets Chris, an American GI, and the two fall in love despite the uncertainty and danger surrounding them.

Their relationship is soon torn apart by the fall of Saigon. Separated from Chris, Kim faces years of hardship as she struggles to survive and protect their young son, Tam. Holding on to the hope of reuniting her family, she embarks on a journey that tests her courage, determination and capacity for sacrifice.

Alongside Kim’s story is the character known as the Engineer, a resourceful and ambitious survivor whose plans are shaped by his determination to reach America. His presence adds further tension and complexity to a story exploring the consequences of war and the difficult choices people make when their futures are uncertain.

Inspired by the opera Madama Butterfly, Miss Saigon combines personal relationships with a much larger historical backdrop. Its themes of love, separation, displacement and survival continue to resonate with audiences around the world.

Unforgettable Songs from Miss Saigon

One of the musical’s greatest strengths is its celebrated score by Claude-Michel Schönberg, with lyrics by Alain Boublil and Richard Maltby Jr. The music moves between intimate emotional moments and spectacular ensemble numbers, helping bring the characters and their experiences to life.

Audiences can look forward to familiar favourites including “The Heat Is On in Saigon”, “The Movie in My Mind”, “Last Night of the World” and “The American Dream”.

These songs capture the different worlds inhabited by the characters, from Kim’s hopes for a better future to the ambition and desperation of those trying to escape the conflict. The combination of powerful vocals, sweeping melodies and dramatic storytelling has helped make Miss Saigon an enduring musical theatre favourite.

A Spectacular West End Production

The latest production brings a contemporary approach to the epic story while retaining the scale and emotional intensity that have defined the musical for decades.

Cameron Mackintosh’s production features cinematic staging, striking visual effects and choreography designed to convey both the intimacy of the characters’ relationships and the scale of the surrounding conflict. The result is a theatrical experience that combines the emotional impact of the story with the spectacle of a major West End musical.

The Prince Edward Theatre, situated in London’s West End, provides the setting for this limited engagement. Its central location makes it convenient for visitors planning an evening of theatre, dinner or sightseeing in London.
